Kirindy is a dry deciduous forest home to Verreaux's sifaka, red-fronted brown lemurs and several nocturnal lemurs, including the tiny Madame Berthe's mouse lemur — one of the smallest primates in the world. It is also the home of the giant jumping rat, found only in this region.
Above all, Kirindy is known for the fossa. Sightings are never guaranteed, but they are more frequent here than almost anywhere else in Madagascar.
A day trip from Morondava is possible, but staying one night lets you join the night walk, when mouse lemurs, chameleons and many insects become active. An overnight stay also fits well with a sunset at the Avenue of the Baobabs on the way back.
Do not confuse Kirindy Forest (north of Morondava) with Kirindy-Mitea National Park, a different and harder-to-reach park south of Morondava. Our tours go to Kirindy Forest.
No one can guarantee it — the fossa is a wild animal. Kirindy is one of the best places to see one, and our guides know the areas where they are seen most often.
Yes. Many of Kirindy's animals are nocturnal, including mouse lemurs. The night walk is often the highlight of the visit.
Yes, a full-day trip is possible. Staying one night gives you the night walk and a better chance to see more animals.
