The green, misty rainforest east of Antananarivo, home of the indri — the largest living lemur, whose song carries across the forest every morning.
The indri is the largest living lemur, famous for its haunting song, heard mostly in the morning. Andasibe is also home to diademed sifakas, brown lemurs, chameleons, frogs and many birds.
Analamazaotra has the easiest trails and the habituated indri groups. Mantadia is wilder, with longer and hillier walks. Community reserves nearby offer night walks to find mouse lemurs and chameleons.
East of Andasibe, the Pangalanes canal leads to the Palmarium reserve, where lemurs roam freely and where you can look for the strange nocturnal aye-aye. Our 5-day trip combines both.
About 140 km, roughly 3 to 4 hours by road.
Mostly in the early morning, which is when guided walks start.
Yes. The Analamazaotra trails are fairly easy; Mantadia is better for more active walkers.
