Drive north to Miandrivazo, board your pirogue and start the descent with a first riverside camp at sunset.

Full day on the water with stops at sacred sites, villages and natural pools. Overnight in a wild camp with simple Malagasy meals.

Arrive at Belo-sur-Tsiribihina and transfer by 4x4 to Kirindy Forest. Evening night walk to look for fossa and nocturnal wildlife.

Dawn walk in the forest, then drive back to Morondava with a sunset at the Avenue of Baobabs.

Yes, the descent is gentle and suitable for most fitness levels. Experienced local boatmen handle the pirogue; being able to swim helps but is not required.

Sun protection, a hat, a light sleeping bag or liner, insect repellent, a dry bag for electronics and a head torch. Camping equipment for the river is provided.

Facilities are basic — this is wild camping on river sandbanks. The crew sets up a simple camp each evening.
